We made it to Colorado!!!!

For the first few days in CO we camped near Crested Butte, in Taylor Canyon. Absolutely gorgeous! We rode bikes, hikes, cooked on the fire, had a great time in nature!
Playing cards with Grandma and Grandpa
Joey testing out his mountain bike, in the mountains!
Corban, the talk of the campground on his little bike. He is getting so fast I have to run to keep up with him! Everyone kept stopping us to ask about the bike and where they could get one for their grandchildren!

After about 10 hours in the RV, we made it to our first stop, Amarillo TX! We have always heard about KOA's, so we decided we would give it a try. We found it on the map, and after driving through the Amarillo ghetto, turning in right by the airport, we had arrived! The "kampground" itself was nice. It had a playground for the kids to run off some steam, and was quiet and clean. We got a good nights sleep!

Getting ready to hit the road...

We have planned an exciting 5 week RV adventure! This has always been a dream of mine, and I am so looking forward to it. Homeschooling at its finest! We are encompassing map skills, geography, math (calculating miles, hours per day, MPG), nature study, history of different regions, science, and making sure we don't acquire this!

We will be starting our journey in Colorado visiting family and friends, then heading out onto the open road, visiting 7 National Parks and family along the way... Checkout the map here.

We will be traveling in our 31 foot Coachmen Freelander.
Our new home on wheels!

I plan on posting our ed-ventures regularly, check back soon!

THSC Convention

We attended the THSC convention in The Woodlands this weekend. What an amazing time of encouragement!!! It was definitely a time of thought-provoking, conviction-assuring, teachings! Two of the keynote speakers truly stood out. One, Sally Clarkson, who is really my homeschool mentor, was encouraging and spoke words of truth into my heart for the direction of our school this year. The other, Andrew Pudewa, was a new one for me to hear. What he had to say was enthralling for me! He spoke of so many things that Tony and I have talked about regarding our "schooling" and gave us insightful information with documented studies etc. I wish that everyone could, or would, listen to him! If I were better at this blogging thing, this is where I would include a link to his website so you could download his keynote speech! But instead, I will tell you how to get it if you so desire... http://www.excellenceinwriting.com/fea-e OOOh, I may have figured out the link thing! :)

This now gets added to the 8+ years I have spent actively pursuing knowledge on homeschooling! This and Sally Clarksons, "Educating the WholeHearted Child" are at the top...

Both of them really get to the point of asking yourself, "what is important when my kids are grown?" Is it the math workbook that may or may not have been completed? Or is it the character and heart of the child we are after? Will they remember the drudgery of sitting at the table, completing worksheet after worksheet? Or will they remember reading whole-life giving books that tell the stories of the great people of history? Will they learn to answer questions? Or, will they learn to ASK questions and be great thinkers? Will they be followers, or will they have the ability to step-up and be great leaders?

Both of these wonderful speakers explain, in a lot more thorough detail than I am able to, the answers and the how-to's of these great questions!!

A new blog!!!
